Sense & Sensibility 10c: Girl's Romantic Era Dress

Here's the companion to the women's Romantic Era Dress pattern. The designer has bumped up the years just a bit, so this pattern fits the fashion plates and paintings of the mid-to-late-1830s (taking you into the early Victorian Era), since early Romantic Girls' fashions looked just like Regency fashions. Dresses made from this pattern are meant for play, and I highly recommend getting the matching Pinafore/Pantaloon pattern so you can also create the requisite pantaloons.

  • Sizes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 & 10 all included in one envelope.
  • Illustrated instructions make construction easy!
  • Options for long sleeves; short, puffed sleeves; cap sleeves; and flare sleeves.
  • Yardage Chart available online.

smpm73.gif (23k) Eagle's View PM73 Broadfall Drop Front Breeches and Pants. Breeches were worn by both military and civilians in the 1700's and early 1800s. Usually made of broadcloth or linen, they were also worn in leather and were buttoned or buckled just below the knees or tied with a drawstring. In the fur trade the legs were extended but pants kept the drop front, the full gathered seat and the gussets in the back of the waistband.

Variations are given in the pattern for knee closing and leg length and it comes in waist sizes 30 through 42.

The pattern is easy to use and comes complete with a glossary of terms and a section on "Working with Leather" so that almost anyone will be comfortable using this pattern. $10.00

Rocking Horse Farm 198: Cape/Cloak/Mantle

Rocking Horse Farm 198: Cape/Cloak/Mantle.

For centuries the cape/cloak/mantle was a simple circular or rectangular piece of fabric with a hole cut for the head. It was used for a blanket at night and a body covering by day, functional but not fashionable. Early capes/cloaks wrapped around the body for warmth and protection. The type of fabric used to make it was determined by the climate.

In the 16th cetury, cape/cloaks finally became a fashion of its own when they began being shaped, sewn and often lined. The 17th, 18th and 19th centuries saw voluminous cape/cloaks with 1 to 3 shoulder capes, collars, and made of rich fabrics. The plainer ones were worn for riding or traveling. For the rich and those with a sense of the dramatic, cloaks could be worn draped casually over one shoulder.

Irish Leine (Shirt) PAY016 AlterYears PAY016 Irish Kinsale Cloak. Due to the wet climate of the country, the Irish have always worn cloaks of one sort or another. The fashion of a full-length collared cloak with or without a hood started in the early 18th century. By 1730 they were found all over Ireland. They have also been widely adopted by modern Renaissance and Medieval living history groups for their warmth and elegance. Originally constructed in red, blue green or gray wool, by the mid 1800's they were usually made of black wool. One size fits most.

Complete your outfit with the PAY015 Irish Leine (Shirt) and the PAY014 "Irish" Dress.
