Full size paper patterns for late 17th century stays (corsets) based on two extant English examples. View A, based on the stays in the Museum of London are fully-boned, five piece stays featuring an optional front busk, integral shoulder straps, back laced closure, and integral tabs at the waist. View B, based on the stays in the Victoria and Albert Museum, features a front opening, stomacher, integral waist tabs and optional sleeves. Fits busts 30˝"-48" and waists 23"-41". All sizes included in one envelope. Embellishment suggestions included.

Here are the underpinnings you need to give you the proper Regency foundation! This package includes patterns for a chemise, short stays, and two chemisettes. The chemise was modeled from original garments in several museum collections and features an adjustable drawstring neckline and gussets under the arms for a comfortable fit.

Some parts of the pattern are rated "intermediate," like the stays, but the chemise and chemisettes are simple enough for a beginniner. Do note that the short stays will not offer ample enough support for sizes "DD" and above. The designer of this pattern would instead recommend "the excellent Regency Stays pattern by The Mantua Maker," which is for longer (hip-length) stays and can be easily modified to support larger cup sizes.

Past Patterns 030: Transition Stays ca. 1795-1810. The #030 pattern was pulled, with permission, from the extant garment in the Danvers' Historical Society in Danvers, Massachusetts.

The stay is typically worn with Past Patterns' #031 Circa 1796-1806 Lewis & Clark Era Front Closing Gown.

Views A and B are ladies’ corsets and View C is a man’s. View A is a ribbon corset. It is constructed of alternating pieces of fabric and ribbon. It has a busk in the front and lacing in the back. The bones are placed between two layers of fabric. This corset was popular from about 1899 to 1909. View B is a one layer corset girdle made with coutil with a busk in front, lacing in back, and boning tape. The dates for this corset are about 1894-1909. Mantua Maker 1810-4: 1800-1830 Pantalettes, are the most important undergarments for a woman of the Regency. They do not have a closed crotch seam, which is historically correct for this period. They are a drawers-type garment witha ribbon fastening. Ideas for variations are included.

Mantua Maker 1700-4: 1740-1780 Oblong Petticoats are designed to cover panniers, and are individually adjusted for the panniers' width. They can be made in the wide English style or the narrow French style. The pattern includes ideas for decoration.

The publisher first published this pattern in 1985 and named it the "1863 Bust Supporting Corset". After researching in patent records, they corrected the historical notes and revised and updated the pattern and the pattern sizes.The corset can be made without the straps to wear under an off the shoulder gown.
